The Alternative Kitchen Garden podcast, produced and presented by Emma Cooper, is all about growing edible and useful plants in an environmentally-friendly way. It is completely free to download and listen to.
It’s a couple of days late for Hedgehog Awareness Week, but this week’s show is all about the wild European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus), which is a friend to gardeners because it eats lots of slugs and snails. We talk about how to make your garden hedgehog-friendly, and you can find more information on this topic via the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and the Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital website.
If you’d like to make your garden more hedgehog-friendly then Wiggly Wigglers offer a selection of hoggy homes, a special hedgehog food mix and live or dried mealworms.
I also introduce our new AKG correspondent, Thomas from Melbourne, who talks about his involvement in the local Compost Mates initiative. The links Thomas mentions are Cultivating Community and Yarra Urban Harvest.
