The Alternative Kitchen Garden podcast, produced and presented by Emma Cooper, is all about growing edible and useful plants in an environmentally-friendly way. It is completely free to download and listen to.
Peat is in the news this week as television gardener Alan Titchmarsh has declared he won’t stop using peat and TV chef Jamie Oliver has put his name to a range of garden products that includes composts containing peat.
In this show we look at what peat is, where it comes from, why gardeners use it and why wildlife campaigners and environmentalists would like us to stop. Finally we take a tour of the alternatives to using peat in your garden.
The statistics I quote during the show come from The Independent, RecycleNow and The Wildlife Trusts.
