The Alternative Kitchen Garden podcast, produced and presented by Emma Cooper, is all about growing edible and useful plants in an environmentally-friendly way. It is completely free to download and listen to.
After a trip to the Edible Garden Show I’m gazing into my horticultural crystal ball to see if I can predict the kitchen gardening trends for 2011.
Leading the way in unusual edibles is Mark Diacono (author of a book called A Taste of the Unexpected in the UK that was recently released as The Food Lover’s Garden: Amazing Edibles You Will Love to Grow and Eat in the US. He’s joined by James Wong who thinks that gardening in small spaces should be about exciting edible and useful plants. Many of the plants that I mention are available from Suttons in the UK and if you stop by the Offers and Coupons section you can keep up-to-date on the latest gardening offers from them and other companies.
Hugelkultur is going to be the big topic in permaculture, thanks to Sepp Holzer’s new book, and urban foraging will still be hot.
Once I’ve packed away my crystal ball, Robb and Jackie from the Sustainable Living Project close the show with a description of their biomass heating system.
