The Alternative Kitchen Garden podcast, produced and presented by Emma Cooper, is all about growing edible and useful plants in an environmentally-friendly way. It is completely free to download and listen to.
Tiger nuts (chufa) are Cyperus esculentus, an edible crop that is quite widely grown globally, but that is unusual in the UK and in kitchen gardens.
In Spain these tubers are grown to make horchata de chufa, a refreshing and nutritious drink.
In this episode we found out how well they grew in the Alternative Kitchen Garden this year, and how you can grow your own. Check out the photos of the tiger nuts growing.
