Garlic in trug

Emails from listeners this week were on growing lentils (seeds are available from Seeds of Italy) and what to do with green tomatoes (you could try making glutney) and there’s another short story from Greenprints magazine.

2007 was a difficult gardening year for many people, because of the unsettled weather. Successes in the Alternative Kitchen Garden included Jerusalem artichokes and garlic. There was also plenty of chard for the chickens.

The chickpeas grew well and are drying in the grow dome – and the grow dome itself was the major success of the year since it is not a fully functional greenhouse.

There were plenty of crop failures this year, but it’s also important to remember what worked well. And it’s time to start planting onion sets and garlic to ensure next year’s harvest.
