The sad news from the blogosphere is that the garden writer Elspeth Thompson has died suddenly, aged only 48.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Elspeth in person, but we did correspond via email and she was one of the people kind enough to provide a PR quote for my book when it was ready to meet the world. She was always kind, generous and exuberant about gardening of all kinds. In recent years I had been following her progress turning a set of old railway carriages into a beautiful eco-home. It seemed as though we had a lot in common and I assumed that our paths would cross one day, but sadly that was not to be the case.

My heart goes out to her family at this sad time. I know that Elspeth will be missed through this coming growing season, and for many more to come.
