I have been watching conversations unfold over the last few days, regarding the BBC’s recent programme about the future of farming – A Farm for the Future. You can still see the programme on the BBC iPlayer (if you’re in the UK or can work out how to tinker with Firefox to make it work elsewhere). And you can read my review here.
One comment is that the programme is a little one-sided, which is fair enough, but it was essentially an opinion piece from the filmmaker, so editorial bias is not unexpected. However, there have been far more people who have been talking about how this programme is a breath of fresh air – bringing Peak Oil and Permaculture into the public eye.
More people would like access to this programme. The iPlayer only really works in the UK, and there are people elsewhere in the world who would like to watch it. I know of people who would like to be able to download a copy of the programme so that they can show it to more people – in community groups, for example.
I think it should be made widely available – and I’m not the only one. Rob Hopkins from Transition Culture would like people to make their views known to the BBC. So if you enjoyed this programme, let them know (Rob suggests using the Points of View message board, although I’d rather find a suitable email address). If you’d like to be able to download a copy and show it to more people, ask them to make it available.
Make some noise, and they might just listen. Just think of how many people could watch it if they put it on YouTube :)
Much later…
If you’re trying to track down a DVD copy of A Farm for the Future, then try contacting Permaculture Magazine.
