As previously promised, last night I went to see Ken Thompson’s lecture ‘No Nettles Required’. The subject matter covered was a precis of that in the book of the same name.
What makes Ken Thompson different from other people who write about wildlife gardening is that he’s a scientist – and he’s done the research to back up his advice (some of which is contrary to popular beliefs about wildlife gardening).
He was an entertaining speaker, and I passed an enjoyable hour listening to his talk, even though I was wildly out of place in an audience comprised almost entirely of the worthy people who are Friends of Oxford Botanic Garden.
At the end I was fortunate enough to be able to catch a few minutes to talk to Ken, and he was kind enough to sign my book. What a nice man!
The maximum temperature in the Grow Dome yesterday was 11°C.
The overnight minimum was 0°C.
