Emma Cooper is a freelance writer, photographer and podcaster. An active organic gardener, Emma lives in Oxfordshire with husband Pete, three plastic compost bins, two wormeries and a pair of bokashi bins. There used to be chickens, too, but they have all moved on to pastures new.
Emma loves making compost and growing edible & useful plants in an environmentally-friendly way. Her first book, 'The Alternative Kitchen Garden: An A to Z', covers a wide range of topics from green gardening techniques to unusual edible plants and was published by Permanent Publications in 2009. Emma's second book, 'The Allotment Pocket Bible', was published by Crimson in June 2011.
NS&I are joining forces with the RHS to support their Grow Your Own campaign again this year – and they’re running a competition to design a modern and innovative kitchen garden.
The details and a downloadable entry form are all available from the NS&I site. The three winning designers will all receive a grant for £5000 to build their garden at Gardeners’ World Live 2009.
The closing date for this competition is 23 January 2009, with the winning entrants notified by 30 January 2009.
