As previously mentioned, the Big Green Gathering is not going ahead this year. Lots of people are missing out on the opportunity to have a green holiday, meet up with friends and make new ones and learn new environmentally friendly things. Some will camp elsewhere, but for those of us who are staying at home (including those who couldn’t go to the BGG anyway), I am running a special week-long blog carnival: Big Green Blog Gathering. There will be music and dancing, there will be food, and there will be talks and workshops and a seed swap :)

Each day this week has a theme. Feel free to email links and ideas for inclusion every day, and don’t forget you can leave comments too! I want to make this as much like a real world festival as possible, so it’s all about meeting new people, encountering new ideas, having news experiences and sharing.

Big Green Blog Gathering: Day 1 – Water

Mill stream

On the music stage today we have Moss Def, with New World Water

In the Permaculture Yurt we have VP talking about her favourite charity, Water Aid, followed by a presentation by Emma on Water-Wise Gardening.

The café will be serving Hommity Pie for lunch, with elderflower cordial.

Hen Solo finds the comfrey

In the Permaculture Garden we will be looking at comfrey, the wonder plant, and the Gardeners’ World team will be running a workshop on How to make a mini-pond. Staff from PlantLife will be on hand to advise about invasive pond plants.

Burst

The Alternative Kitchen Garden Seed Swap in the Permaculture Marquee is offering Welsh onion seeds today.

The Big Green Blog Gathering Green Flash Mob is heading over to The Rainforest Site and clicking on their big green donate button. The Solar-Powered Cinema is showing Green TV’s weekly news, but the news on the Blog Green Gathering grapevine is that greenies with tents are heading over to the Isle of White to Vestival in support of the threatened Vesta factory, the UK’s only wind turbine manufacturer. And the weather forecast for today is wet and wild, so don’t forget your wellies!

Keep up with more Big Green Blog Gathering goodies on Twitter, by following the #bgbg tag.

The themes for the rest of the week are as follows:

  • Thursday: Energy

  • Friday: Transport

  • Saturday: Waste

  • Sunday: Climate

If you have links and ideas for inclusion then don’t forget to email them to me. I am organizing the Permaculture Area of the Big Green Blog Gathering, but the Big Green Gathering had lots of different areas planned, so feel free to host your own Blog Green Gathering Area and let everyone know what’s going on there!
